It took a national tragedy to bring forth the politics of the LCMS.  It is apparent to me that a change is needed in how we bring Christ to the world.  With millions being focused on the Yankee Stadium Prayer Service,  Dr. Benke brought Christ forth to the churched and the unchurched, to the believer and the non-believer.  This is what Christ has asked us to do, whether it fits the rules and regulations of the LCMS.  Did Dr. Benke know it was against the rules to take part in the service?  Of course he did.  Did he know that he has to answer to God first and then the LCMS second?  Of course he did.

In amongst the wolves of Muslim clerics, sat a lamb of Christ.  The only representative on the panel who brought Christ to the masses, was Dr. Benke.  Second Vice President Schulz took this opportunity to publicly attempt to humiliate Dr. Benke, and the members of the LCMS who support Dr. Benke in this moment of true evangelism.  Was he required to do so?  Of course.  Did he know he would be a target for taking the action he did against Dr. Benke?  Of course.

Both men did what they felt was required of them in the best interest of the LCMS, the greater church of Christ Jesus.  Now we need to move forward to show the world that the LCMS can resolve these matters in a Christ like fashion, as an example of the Grace offered to us by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Offer up these men in your prayers, for grace and resolution, for healing and for strength.

In His service,
