As a very interested layman observer of this matter, I am heartily gratified to see the clear language and straightforward action taken by Rev. Schulz towards DP Benke. Many may avoid to accept the Scriptural basis for our Synod's stance on syncretism and unionism, but I am disappointed at how often it is ignored that a vow made before God (to avoid syncretism and unionism of every type) has been broken, and that it is the lack of repentance for this action that is just as great an issue demanding church discipline. The temptation for Rev. Schulz to look the other way must have been great, but, God-be-praised, this temptation was resisted, and an unambiguous action was taken.

I have parents, two sisters, and a brother who are confessional Lutherans, but unable to, in good conscious, affiliate themselves with LCMS parishes due to the consistent inability of Synodical leadership to follow the stated doctrinal positions of the Synod with the active practice of church discipline. My prayer is that they, and the many others who have left their beloved Synod out of fear for their spiritual lives, are able to rejoin an LCMS which regains its love and zeal for God's Word and peoples' souls in both confession and practice.

Thank you Rev. Schulz. May God keep you, DP Benke, President Kieschnick, and those in leadership of our Synod in His care in the turbulent waters ahead.
