Laywoman Asks If There is a "Secret Police" In the LCMS |
|
|
It is a sad day for the LCMS when a God fearing man like Dr. Benke is suspended for his participation in the Yankee Stadium event. I never think of myself as belonging to the one true Church - the LCMS but rather to be a child of God and a Christian. Belonging to the Atlantic District and knowing Dr. Benke it is beyond understanding that he was suspended. Because of the decision of one man the LCMS has received a black eye. What is even more interesting is that Dr. Benke had the permission of his supervisor, Dr. Kieschnick to participate in this event. Is there a "Secret Police" within the LCMS that decides, even though the President approved, that they need to put their stamp of approval on everybody's action? If they do not agree you will be suspended? Do we need to watch what we say and pray?
I for one am proud to have Dr. Benke as my District President. Under his leadership we have grown and spread the Good News to the extent that the Atlantic District is number one with new members and mission startups. That has to say something about us. Our District has always been the stepchild of the Synod. Under Barry's tutelage we never once had a visit to the Synod until he finally accepted an invitation to Concordia College in Bronxville. We are always criticized and looked upon as second-class citizens. We love our neighbors and share the Good News and that is what we are called to by Christ.
I pray this situation will be settled quickly and in a God pleasing way. May God have mercy on us.
Love In Christ,
Gabi Pugliese Redeemer Lutheran Church (LCMS) Old Westbury, NY
