Opinions & Views on the Benke case |
|
|
I agree wholeheartedly with those
who maintain that Rev. Schulz's report does not do what he claimed -- he
offers NO Scriptural support for his decision, even thought
he says "this case has been adjudicated, not on the basis of man's opinions,
but on God's clear Word."
As one who served on Committee 5 of
the 1992 Pittsburgh Convention and brought before the convention the "Synodical
Dispute Resolution" chapter of the LCMS Handbook, I find it very ironic
that Rev. Schulz uses the word "adjudicate" constantly, when the whole purpose
of dispute resolution is to resolve disputes and bring
about reconciliation -- NOT to "adjudicate," "judge," etc.
Finally, I recommend for everyone's
reading the following:
When Fellowship Becomes a Cause Célèbre — Gerald B. Kieschnick — (Martin and Regina Maehr Memorial Lecture, Concordia University, Seward, Nebraska, 7 March 2002). You can find it at www.day-star.net Pastor Jim Rogers
