I have been a pastor of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod for 14 years,
and am exceedingly grateful that our Lord, through the guidance of the Word
and His Holy Spirit, moved Rev. Wallace Schulz to suspend the Rev. David
Benke from his official capacities as Atlantic District President and member
of the Concordia Bronxville Board of Regents.

Let me make something else perfectly clear: Nothing would make me more
satisfied, in Christ, than to see a simple statement of repentance and faith
from Rev. Benke. On September 23rd, he was, to be sure, in an unenviable
and difficult position, yet knew what he was about to do on the stage with
Oprah et al. was contrary to any and all intent expressed in the Holy
Scriptures, the Lutheran Confessions and synodically adopted LCMS practice
regarding this clear form of syncretistic "worship," no matter what Oprah or
even the noble Mayor Guiliani may have called the Yankee Stadium "event."

Saint Paul makes it crystal clear in II Corinthians, chapter sixth, "we are
not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers." If people are unhappy with the
word syncretism, fine...Let them look at this plain Word of God penned by
the Apostle.

Again, I could not be more pleased than to see the matter resolved with an
acknowledgment of the transgression, followed by the sweet and comforting,
life-changing and ministry-restoring Word of rest in Holy Absolution.

Yours, in Christ,

Bradley W. Ketcham, Pastor+
