I think it's sad that again
the LCMS is being torn apart by rigid "Purists" who insist that it must be
their way or no way. The concept of "Unionism" may have been valid in
the controversies between the Lutheran and the Reformed in the 16th &
17th century, or in reaction to the King of Prussia's edict that Lutherans
and Reformed must get together (The Prussian Union, which I think was in 1830),
but it doesn't apply in the Benke case. He was at Yankee Stadium, imploring
our Lord Jesus Christ for the victims of 9/11, and his kind of prayer was
much needed at that unique event.. Now he is being charged with sinning
- sinning for praying for people in need. And because of that charge,
the LCMS seems to be on a collision course, all because some pastors
judge things by by-laws and dogmatics books rather than by Scriptures.
