Laywoman Shares Link To News Story Billing Prayer Service As "High Religious Service" |
|
|
For those who have been seeing Yankee Stadium billed merely as a "civic event." The below news article was written *before* the Yankee Stadium event and in part, it was a way to disseminate the order of service beforehand, since nonewould be given out at the event. It is billed beforehand as a "prayer service" and "memorial service" and "massive interfaith service." It even spoke of having an element of a "high religious service" (see below.) All the information was available in advance to the public as to who was going to be there and what they would be doing. http://www.newsday.com/features/religion/ny-nymain232380683sep23.story Quotes: "The prayer service will be led by, among others, New York's archbishop, Cardinal Edward Egan, Imam Pasha of Harlem's Malcolm Shabazz Mosque, and Rabbi Alvin Kass, a New York Police Department chaplain. Rabbi Haskel Lookstein will blow the shofar, the ram's horn sounded during high religious services, and leaders from Sikh and Hindu temples will give benedictions in front of the 55,000 people expected to fill the House That Ruth Built." and further down in the article: "A Prayer for America, a memorial service at Yankee Stadium hosted by the City of New York, begins today at 2:30 p.m. No program was to be distributed at the stadium, but this is rundown of the service that can be clipped out and taken along..." This is followed by very detailed listing of who would be doing what. If you haven't yet seen the service, or even seen the order of service, you may just be surprised at what your leaders want the LCMS to believe was merely a "civic event." Cheryl Oberdieck
