Frequently Asked

I am a lifelong Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS) layperson and I totally disagree with Rev Wallace Schultz's vigilante approach in dealing with this situation.  Moreover, I am embarrassed for my Synod.

Having been affiliated with Lutheran Hour Ministries for many years, Rev. Schulz should be very familiar with the slogan, "Bringing Christ To The Nations".  How can one be an effective witness, evangelist, etc., if one can't even be allowed to pray with those that the LCMS considers "non-Christians"?

If Dr Benke is to be suspended and ultimately removed from the roster of LCMS Pastors for participating in a prayer service with "non-Christians", how does Rev Schulz justify the fact that we have missionaries in foreign, "non-Christian" countries that pray with the population of those countries in order to BRING THEM TO CHRIST?

And then, there are chaplains (hospital, prison, military, etc.) that pray with people every day.  Do you think they verify prior to prayer that the person is a "Christian" before they will pray with them?  I think not!!

I believe Rev Wallace Schulz had a huge political agenda behind this action, and waited until he felt that he was "SAFELY" appointed as Lutheran Hour speaker before carrying it out.  This issue was raised, discussed, and dealt with by Synodical officers immediately after it took place.  Why else would he have waited so long to make a move like this?

Rev Schulz took this action in a vindictive, narrow-minded, self-serving manner.  I hope that he is required to answer for the frustration, confusion, and embarrassment that he has caused the LCMS.

Since I am also employed by the LCMS, I would request that my name or email address not be published, should you choose to publish my comments.  Thank you for this opportunity to express my feelings on this very disturbing situation!
