I have been a Missouri Synod Lutheran for over 50 yrs, and now find that I am almost ashamed to admit it. I have had an opportunity to read the prayer given at Yankee stadium, and have yet to find anything in there to be apologized for.  I did read the charges that were made, and the decision handed down. I cannot believe that an EVANGELICAL church would condemn a called spiritual leader for performing the task he is trained for, and called for, as are we all. It was our Lord and Savior himself who directed his followers to go out into the world and spread the gospel. He did not specify only to the LCMS, although it appears that there are some who missed the message.  I believe that Pastor Benke's presence on that day in New York was a response to the 11th commandment, "A new commandment I give unto you, Love one another. As I have loved you, love one another".  I pray that this divisive matter be resolved quickly, and wisely for the good of the church, and not just the LCMS, this kind of publicity hurts the Christian church of all denominations, and we do not need more of it. In closing I would suggest the powers in Synod not worry so much about the constitution and bylaws. Ask yourselves What Would Jesus have done that day. He did it, through pastor Benke, and the others who were there to lend solace.

Yours in Him who died for us,
