Dear
Dr. Schulz,
Let me introduce myself, my name is Annie Wilkom and I am a Christian, a
believer in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
As a Christian of the Catholic denomination I am appalled at what is going
on in the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. The fact that the Rev.
Dr. David Benke is being crucified for praying with all of God's people on
such a tragic event as 9/11 is an insult to the Christian faith.
In the Gospel of Matthew 5:10 it says "blessed are those who are persecuted
for righteousness sake for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." And in Ephesians
6:10 speaks of the very thing that your synod is doing to the tear down a
man of God. "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of
his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand
against the wiles of the devil. For we are not contending against flesh
and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the
world rulers of this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness
in the heavenly places. Therefore take the whole armor of God, that
you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the
breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the equipment
of the gospel of peace; besides all these, taking the shield of faith, with
which you can quench all the flaming darts of the evil one. And take
the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of
God.. Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.
To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all
the saints, and also for me, that utterance may be given me in opening my
mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador
in chains; that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak."
We are to be building up the body of Christ, not tearing it down. In
1 Corinthians 12:20-27 it is written. "As it is, there are many parts, yet
one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you,"
nor again the head to the feet, "I have not need of you." On the contrary,
the parts of the body, which seem to be weaker are indispensable, and those
parts of the body which we think less honorable we invest with the greater
honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, which
our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body,
giving the greater honor to the inferior part, that there may be no discord
in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another.
If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all
rejoice together. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members
of it.
I have come to know The Rev. Dr. Benke through my position with the church
and will attain to his credibility as a model Christian and witness for Jesus
Christ. A man who lives out the gospel in his daily walk as a man of
God. This is what it's all about, the power of the gospel, not the
power of man. I pray that the veil will be lifted from your eyes and
the eyes of those who judge this man who exemplifies love, peace, kindness
and speaks the word of God to all mankind.
That is what we are commissioned to do by Jesus….go ye therefore into the
world and speak the gospel to all peoples. You and yours are
in my prayers!
In His service,
Annie Wilkom
