Dear Servant of Christ:

I am writing in reference to the dissension among the brethren concerning Dr. Behnke’s participation in the Yankee Stadium event.  As a simple lay person who has taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for over 50 years, the song “This Little Gospel Light of Mine --- hide it under a bushel?  NO!” comes to mind.  When the Lord is opening an opportunity to spread the Gospel message, are you saying “NO” to it?  Have you educated people read 1 Corinthians 3 on divisions in the Church?  With your man-made interpretations of syncretism, etc, have you become so quarrelsome over your self importance that you fail to see God’s hand in providing an opportunity to witness to the world our Christian beliefs?  Because a person is standing by a Muslim, a Jew, etc. does not mean he is praying their prayer.  Are you setting yourself up to see into his heart as God does?  It is only for God to pass judgment.

I urge you to read the Bible – no place does it mention those man made rules that you try to impose.  In Matthew 18:2, Jesus says, ”I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven.  Therefore whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.”  We all need simple childlike faith.

Have some of the clergy become like Pharisees?  Have you ever stepped out of your stuffy offices to see what is going on in the world that needs to know Christ, not your egos in nit picking one another?  Paul admonishes us in Romans 14:10, “Why do you judge your brother? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat”.  In 14:13, “Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another instead make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacles in your brother’s way”. St Paul speaks on divisions in the church in 1 Corinthians 3:16 in writing, “Do not deceive yourselves.  If anyone of you thinks he is wise, by the standards of this age, he should become a fool so that he may become wise for the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight.”
