While I am heartened to note that our Synod President has finally taken action to correct a terrible wrong, I am appalled and saddened by the comments published so far in defense of Dr. Schulz decision. Some have quoted scriptures in pieces that don't stand by themselves and others have purposefully misinterpreted passages from the Bible. Lord Jesus did NOT tell us to not pray in public! He told us not to pray as the hypocrites do. Are you folks able to read the Gospel passages having to do with Jesus' relations with the Pharisees without seeing yourself? Are you able to read Matthew Chapter 9, verses 12 and 13 without understanding that it applies in this case?  Are you so blind and arrogant that you do not see that the divisiveness you are causing is not only unjustified, but plays into the hands of Satan himself? Do you realize that by suggesting that the manner you pray, or the manner you worship, is so important as to affect salvation and/or our relations with Jesus that you are going counter to what Luther, Paul and Jesus taught us: specifically that we are saved through the grace of God and not through our own actions … or inactions. Be careful! Your actions and words could easily frighten away those with weak faith and impede the work others are doing to spread the news of Jesus' love and mercy. How will your Savior see your current acts? If in doubt, you may want to refer to Matthew 18:6 and Galatians 1:6-9.  Either repent and join us as we struggle to do our Savior's work, or leave us! You have offended your God and us for too long already.
