In response to the suspension of Dr.
David Benke by Dr. Wallace Schulz: I have never been so appalled and
ashamed to call myself a Christian as I was when I learned of the suspension.
What a travesty of injustice against a servant of Christ, Dr. Benke.
I have been a member of LCMS all of my life(I am 64 yrs. old) until the
last 5 years when I became a member of an ELCA church because there
is not a LCMS near my home. I have read the prayer you printed that
Dr. Benke gave during the service of comfort at Yankee Stadium.
What a beautiful and reassuring prayer of comfort asking our Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ to be with us in that tragic and horrible time of September
11, 2001.
I read the article in "The Lutheran
Witness," 'God's Children at Ground Zero' by Dr. Benke. Here also
is a wonderful example of him as a powerful servant of the Lord. The
Lutheran Church is "crying" for pastors to spread the Word of Jesus
Christ. Why then should LCMS suspend such a prime example
of all that is good in a pastor.
My fervent prayer is that LCMS will
rescind such a terrible decision.
Sincerely,
Carol N. Graham
